Students at Gordon East Public have the opportunity to be part of the Garden Club. During scheduled times at lunchtimes and recesses our Garden Club team conduct seasonal chores in our beautifully resourced vegetable garden. Students plant, care for and harvest vegetables and herbs throughout the year according to what is in season. The Garden Club program is linked to all areas of the curriculum and creates the home grown food resources for in our cooking program.
Students also have the opportunity to care for our gorgeous chickens. Garden Club creates a fully sustainable model for food production where food grown is used in cooking lessons and any vegetable food waste becomes food for the chickens. A team of students from each class each week are responsible for the care of the chickens and are given a variety of chores that relate to cleaning the chicken's habitat, providing fresh food and water and collecting the precious eggs.
